Over 8 million tonnes of plastics reaches the oceans each year from land masses and much of this is single use plastics which are thrown away... which largely includes water bottles.
Buying a bottle of water from the shops isn't a sin and I'm never going to say you shouldn't do it, however if that water bottle then ends up in the ocean because it wasn't disposed of properly, it becomes a massive problem. People may think "aw it's just one bottle", but what if 7 billion people thought the same thing?
Water bottles are a massive part of my life.. I am a self proclaimed water bottle addict and I own around 5 but have bought probably a large countries worth over the years. And more recently I have become an advocate against the single use water bottle, in favour for reusable more long lasting alternatives!
Buying water bottles can be a massive challenge, they have to adhere to all the rules in place to weed out those bottles that just don't quite do the trick...
1. Must not leak.. no matter how much or how little is lost everything is a big no! The number of times my notepads have been ruined due to a sneaky leaky bottle is countless.
2. Must be as light weight as possible... which rules out a lot of glass bottles, this is heart breaking as they're often so gorgeous!
My mum bought me a present a few weeks ago of a Klean Kanteen bottle/flask... and I am head over heels in love! The present (pictured) is the 32OZ Classic Loop in Beetroot! Here are the amazing reasons that this bottle is my new fav!
1. If I fill the bottle with ice before work around 9am, it will still be frozen when I finish around 6 or 7! Truely amazing!
2. It hasn't leaked.. not even a little drop!
3. It comes with two different types of top, either a sports top or a flask top! (I have the sports top in the picture)
4. The bottle is mostly plastic free, except the actually top of the bottle the whole thing is made of aluminium and is rather lightweight!
Here's a link to the website: https://www.kleankanteen.co.uk/collections/insulated-bottles/products/insulated-water-bottle-32oz?variant=31356440850
I would 100% recommend these water bottles to anyone!
Feel free to comment with any of your own water bottle rules that matter to you!

The Eco Experiment: Where To Start
I do my best to remember to be eco friendly... but it's so hard... I normally remember my own bags to the supermarket... I try to recycle everything I can but sometimes I must admit... I'm just lazy!
I've started this blog to try and remind myself that sometimes it is worth the effort to do the little but extra for the planet! So welcome to The Eco Experiment, which could very much soon turn into The Eco Disaster, but I'm going to try to do my best to save the planet one straw at a time.
My big question to any other eco warriors out there... is how the heck do you start?? But my advice to any one wishing to jump on the eco band waggon, it to start small, only do what you can and figure out what works for you. It's quite clear that I am never going to fit all my rubbish into a tiny Kilner jar, even as I write this I am eating my lunch out of a plastic container which is meant to be single use however I will wash it and use it again for something!
So here goes... The Eco Experiment and a beaut pic of a sun set a few days ago!
